This is a links post on the prison sentence of more than 14 years handed down to Kautilya Nandan Pruthi, the so-called Bernard Madoff of Britain.
See The Sun’s coverage here.
Outtake (italics added):
“Judge Michael Gledhill QC said: “You are an extremely intelligent, articulate, sophisticated and plausible liar. In short, a professional fraudster.”
See coverage in The Economic Times here.

Outtake (italics added):
“The Indian-born businessman was told he faced deportation back to his home country following his jail term.”
Meanwhile, see flashy cars, real estate and photos of celebrity victims of Pruthi at the Daily Mail.
The Independent is reporting that Pruthi offered a return of 156 percent a year.
By comparison, purveyors of the JSS Tripler/JustBeenPaid “opportunity” currently making its way around the web might view the Pruthi offer as chump change. Indeed, JSS Tripler/JustBeenPaid says it can return 180 percent in three months.
I believe the Ponzi scheme to be an American invention started in the late 19th century but perfected by Mr. Charles Ponzi. It never ceases to amaze me where ponzi schemes show up.
The strange thing is that there has never been a ponzi scheme that has not collapsed. It is mathematical. But they all think they will skim enough that they can disappear into the sunset before the authorities wake up to the fraud.
I guess that the internet is still in it’s infancy and people still believe what they read on the net.
People tend to believe the media, even when they know they are biased but there are many that still do not understand how the internet can be manipulated and the number of criminals who have turned to online crime.
The other thing to be remembered that these are fraudsters, or as they used to be called “con men” or confidence tricksters. They are usually intelligent, highly articulate and manipulative people who know how to identify with their victims. They do not wear a label that says “crook”. They come in all shapes and sizes and are consumate actors.
In addition, the laws and courts have still not caught up with the severity of the damage caused by white collar crime. There are still people serving far worse sentences for housebreaking or stealing purses than those who ruin peoples entire futures.
The excellent Tony Hetherington writes on another UK obvious ponzi scheme, “Luxor Alliance”:

It sounds all too familiar, just line most of the criminal activity at talkgold & others.
Sorry for the double post, but it will surprise no one that Luxor Alliance is/was being promoted at talkgold, and other ponzi promotion forums.
That is an excellent story, Tony. Thanks for sharing the link and making the TalkGold connection.

I chauffeured Pruthi for a couple of weeks while his regular driver was on holiday. He was just moving into his Kensington office at the time. He offered me his full-time drivers job. I couldn’t find any history Pruthi. I would not have thought the arrogance Pruthi showed would be an assest for a fraudster, and he was full of it. Little things he said did not make sense. He was not a class act. Greed blinds people.
Ironically, the “Sun” is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s ‘News Corp.’, but recently the ‘Wall Street Journal’ (also owned by ‘News Corp.’) has been promoting the ‘Amway’ fraud.
